Hair loss, while common, can be distressing. If nonsurgical treatments aren't enough to slow or stop your hair loss, it may be time to consider hair restoration surgery. Lubbock Plastic Surgery Institute offers NeoGraft Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) for patients who want fuller, thicker hair. NeoGraft FUE is a minimally invasive hair transplant surgery that uses advanced technology to extract and place individual hair follicles with precision. FUE selects the best donor follicles from the back of your head and then implants them where they are needed. We use the NeoGraft FUE tool to carefully place each follicle graft so your results look and feel natural. If you have thinning hair or bald spots, schedule a consultation at Lubbock Plastic Surgery Institute to learn more about NeoGraft FUE hair restoration surgery.

Your NeoGraft FUE procedure will be performed in our Lubbock, TX office using a local anesthesia to numb your scalp. An oral sedative may be added to help keep you calm during the process. During your consultation, we will talk to you about what to expect during your FUE procedure, including how long it will take. Once you are prepared, your surgeon and his team will begin the process. While they work, you will be able to relax and watch TV or listen to music.
The donor follicles will typically come from the back of your head since this is an area where hair growth is constant. For medium to large grafts, the entire back and sides of your scalp may need to be shaved. For smaller cases (less than 1,000 –1,200 grafts), you may only need to get a small strip of hair shaved, which will be camouflaged by the hair above it. The donor hair is removed in follicular units, typically about 1 – 4 hairs. The hair removal process is randomized so that the hair around the extracted grafts will grow back and camouflage the extracted follicles. The transplanted area will be designed by our team according to the angle, depth, orientation, and density of your scalp to make natural-looking results.
After the procedure, you will be able to go home and resume most normal activities. We will go over your recovery instructions including how to care for your hair and when to schedule follow-up appointments. You may have some redness or inflammation in the donor and transplant sites for a few days. Small scabs around the transplanted follicles can usually be seen for 7 – 10 days. Several weeks after the procedure, the transplanted follicles will transition to the resting phase of hair growth. This usually lasts for 3 – 4 months as the hair falls out. This is normal and the transplanted follicles will move back into the growing phase as new hair appears. It should take about 12 – 18 months for your final results to be visible. At this point, your hair should look thicker and fuller.

Hair Transplant Surgery FAQs
Am I A Candidate for FUE?
You may be a candidate for NeoGraft FUE if you have large patches of thinning hair or bald spots. You may have tried nonsurgical methods like shampoos, topical medications, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), or low-level laser therapy. While these treatments may help slow or prevent hair loss, they may not be able to correct advanced hair loss. FUE can be performed on most hair colors, conditions, and textures. During your consultation, we will assess your hair and scalp to determine if you have enough donor follicles to accomplish your hair restoration goals.
How Well Does It Work?
Men and women who are self-conscious about their thinning or balding hair can achieve desirable results with hair transplants. Patients who undergo this procedure are generally pleased with the outcome. On average, patients can attain 50-60% of new hair growth within the first year following surgery.
Are there alternatives to FUE?
Hair transplant surgery offers individuals the chance to regain hair in balding areas. For individuals who wish to try other avenues before considering surgery, there are topical solutions, oral medications, and hair systems/camouflage pieces that may work.
Negative Side Effects?
There may be some skin irritation, slight itching, and some skin discoloration after treatment, but this is usually only evident at the injection site and typically subsides in a few days. This procedure is non-invasive and complications are usually rare.
