What is Sculptra?

Volume loss occurs naturally during the aging process, particularly in the middle of the face, as the cheeks tend to become flat and hollow. Drs. Robert Schmid and R. Clark Mooty in Lubbock, TX, use Sculptra Aesthetic — a poly-L-lactic acid-based injectable dermal filler that allows for longer-lasting and deeper volume replacement in the apples of the cheeks. In addition to increasing the contour of the mid-face, Sculptra can reduce the look of shallow to deep wrinkles and lines, including the nasolabial folds (sometimes known as laugh or smile lines) that go from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the lips. With a unique gel formula approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Sculptra increases the natural collagen production in your body, so even if you stop injections, your skin will be stronger compared to before Sculptra injections. Schedule an appointment at Lubbock Plastic Surgery Institute to discover the advantages of this treatment.

Who is a Candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra is ideal for anyone who wants to add contour to their cheeks without surgery. Some candidates may have been born with hollow cheeks, whereas others experience volume loss with age. Sculptra can also help to fill shallow to deep facial wrinkles and lines, such as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. Since Sculptra's formula helps to increase the body's natural production of collagen, most patients will have a visible improvement in the overall health and appearance of their skin.

How does Sculptra work?

After your consult to create your personal treatment plan, you will receive your Sculptra injections in one of our procedure rooms. The injector can use a local anesthetic or numbing cream before cleansing and marking the injection sites. Once you are ready, Sculptra will be injected into the deeper layers of the skin at the chosen areas of the face. For longer-lasting results, the LPSI team performs a series of four treatments that are each done at Lubbock Plastic Surgery Institute about three weeks apart.

What can I Expect After Sculptra?

After your Sculptra treatment, you may experience mild or moderate redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the sites of injections that should subside on their own in a few days. For faster healing, you may apply cold packs to the treated areas. You should avoid UV exposure after your treatment and use sun protection. Many patients will have visible improvements immediately after their Sculptra treatment, with full results seen after 3 – 5 months when the increased collagen production improves the health of the skin. When Sculptra is performed as a series over 3 – 4 months, your results may last as long as two years.

Approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Sculptra has been used safely around the world since the late 1990s. Side effects are rare and usually mild, including slight pain, swelling, redness, and bruising. Occasionally, bumps may become noticeable when pressure is applied to the injection site. Contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.

What is the best age to receive Sculptra?
Sculptra is beneficial for individuals who are wanting to improve the appearance of wrinkles. It is ideal to fill wrinkles on the chin, lines around the mouth, and deep lines between the nose and mouth. Commonly, men and women get Sculptra starting around their late 30s to early 50s; however, it is also common for patients who are younger and older than this range to receive injections.

How long do results last?
For longer-lasting results, you might need to receive several injections. Compared to other dermal fillers, Sculptra lasts longer; the results can last up to two years. Since Sculptra continues to increase the natural production of collagen in your skin, results take longer to appear but last longer.
